Powers Under the Simplified Deputyship Application

Provided that the total amount of money involved is not more than $80,000, powers you can apply for include:

  • To withdraw monies from Patient’s bank account.
  • To surrender and claim Patient’s insurance monies.
  • To sell Patient’s shares.
  • To sell Patient’s motor vehicle.
  • To consent to medical treatment for Patient.
  • To consent to dental treatment for Patient.
  • To decide where and with whom Patient is to live.
  • To decide on care services for Patient.
  • To decide on travelling arrangements for Patient.
  • To open a bank account for Patient.
  • To close Patient’s bank account.
  • To place Patient’s money in fixed deposit accounts in Patient’s bank.
  • To terminate GIRO arrangements linked to Patient’s bank account.
  • To cancel Patient’s credit cards.
  • To pay Patient’s debts.
  • To rent out Patient’s property.
  • To decide on upgrading or renovation of Patient’s property.
  • To lodge a Notice of Death in respect of Patient’s property.
  • To apply for a replacement Certificate of Title in respect of Patient’s property.
  • To purchase insurance policies for Patient.
  • To place P’s monies in a trust for Patient.
  • To apply to and communicate with any government agency or agency designated by the government to administer a matter in question on behalf of Patient, to the extent to which Patient would have been able to if Patient had mental capacity.
  • To obtain information relating to Patient.
  • To decide and act for Patient in relation to Central Provident Fund (CPF) matters.
  • To receive monies paid to Patient on a regular basis by the CPF Board.
  • (In addition to monies paid to Patient on a regular basis by the CPF Board) To receive up to $60,000 of P’s monies from the CPF Board.
  • To enter into contracts for Patient.
  • To conduct legal proceedings in Patient’s name or on Patient’s behalf.

Families in need of the aforementioned powers, with money withdrawals not exceeding $80,000 can directly apply for a simplified deputyship application through the Family Justice Courts’ Integrated Family Application Management System (iFAMS) using SingPass.

If you require powers outside the scope mentioned above, you would need to proceed with the standard deputyship application.
