Webinar: Charities Lean Forward – Fundraising and Digital Protection

Fundraising is a necessary activity to help a charity ensure its long-term sustainability. There are many aspects to keep in mind such as legal considerations and compliance, including the upcoming disclosure regime for public charitable appeals. Other considerations include protecting donors’ information, tightening internal Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) controls and cybersecurity hygiene. This session will help charities understand the steps to safeguard the organisation and donors from common attack methods associated with charity donation scams.

Join moderator, Serene Gan (Deputy Head of Legal, International property Group) and speakers, Samuel Yuen (Managing Director, Yuen Law LLC), Hoi Wai Khin (Partner, RSM Singapore) and Aarthi Sankar (Executive Director, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), as they discuss practical tools and resources that a charity organisation can apply to help improve the success of fundraising efforts and their cybersecurity safety.

In this session Samuel Yuen covers the following topics:

  • An overview of the current regime for public fundraising appeals
    • Charities Act 1994
    • Charities (Fund-raising Appeals for Local and Foreign Charitable Purposes) Regulation 2012
    • House to House and Street Collections Act 1947
    • House to House and Street Collections Regulations 1947
  • General duties of charities with regards to fund-raising
