Anyone who is above 21 years old and who can satisfy the Court that they can act in the best interest of the Patient can be a Deputy and also must NOT be any of the following:-
- Appointed as a Donee or Deputy for someone;
- An undischarged bankrupt or facing any bankruptcy actions;
- Convicted of a criminal offence and not facing any criminal prosecution;
- Sued as a defendant in civil proceedings and not facing any claims in any civil suit.
Usually the Deputy is an immediate family member or relative or a close friend that has been involved in the life of the Patient.
